The
Chinese film " Orphan of Anyang " directed by Wang Chao selected
the Suvarna Chakoram award for the best feature film in the Seventh
International Film Festival of Kerala.
The Tunisian director Khaled Ghorbal bagged the Rajatha Chakoram
award for the best director for his film titled " Fatma " . Young
Argentinian director Gabriea David won the jury's special Rajatha
Chakoram award for her film " Taxi - An Encounter ". The Audience
award for the director of the best entry in the competition went
to T.V.Chandran for his film " Danny ". While the Suvarna Chakoram
carries a purse of Rs.10 lakhs, the Rajatha Chakoram has a cash
prize of Rs.3 lakhs and the special jury award Rs. 2 lakhs.The
audience award comprises a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh.
At the Valedictory function held at the Nisaghandi auditorium,
Reinhard Hauff, jury member announced the Suvarna Chakoram and
Rajatha Chakoram awards. The special jury award was declared by
Derek Malcom, chairman of the FIPRESCI jury.
Announcing the audience awards, the Chalachitra Akademi chairman
Adoor Gopalakrishnan said the winners were selected by the delegates
using a unique polling software. Chandran's Danny secured 31.61
per cent of total votes. Of the 5,060 delegates attending the
festival, 895 exercised their votes. As many as 889 votes were
counted valid.
The Chief Minister A.K.Antony gave away the Suvarna Chakoram and
Rajatha Chakoram awards. The audience award was presented by the
minister of Information M.M. Hassan.
Wang
Chao's film " The orphan of Anyang " focused on marginal urban
characters left behind by China's rapid urbanization and decollectivisation
of the 80s and 90s . " Fatma " deals with the trails and tribulations
of a 17 - year - old girl and her desparate search for real love.
The Gabriela David film " Taxi - An Encounter " is an intimate
tale of the conflict between individual survival and solidarity
with others, expressed through the bond that develops between
two human beings.
Ms. David is the producer as well as script writer for the movie.
T.V.Chandran's Danny documents the life of an ordinary man who,
throughout his long existence, is denied a meaningful relationship
with fellow beings, barring a chance encounter with an old women
at the very end. |
